This spring, we are fundraising to grow an urban forest that sustains us—all of us.

Trees sustain us.

Tree-lined streets evoke well-being, safety, and community. Trees provide well-being by cleaning the air, filtering stormwater, reducing noise, and improving mental health. They create safer neighborhoods by reducing traffic speed and sheltering us from hotter temperatures. By making neighborhoods livable and resilient, trees make communities stronger.

These benefits are out of reach for many Tacoma residents.

Our city has the lowest tree canopy coverage, 20%, in the Puget Sound region, and most trees and their benefits are concentrated in neighborhoods with the highest socioeconomic opportunities.

Today, Tacoma’s urban forest sustains

some more than others.

Too many Tacomans live on streets with no trees, exposed to air and noise pollution, traffic, and a concentration of concrete and heat. With the rising temperatures of climate change, these neighborhoods become urban heat islands where life and community are vulnerable, and resilience to these effects is less.

But even neighborhoods with more robust tree canopy feel the impact of a dwindling urban forest. The trees that line our streets must be diverse to remain healthy, and diversity is hard to maintain with fewer trees.

Nobody is fully sustained,

neither humans nor the wildlife who share the forest with us.

Join us to help grow an urban forest that sustains all of Tacoma for future generations.

WELOVETREESROAST

  • Campfire Coffee created this unique blend to help us raise funds this month. 50% of the proceeds will go directly to us, and you’ll also be supporting an amazing local business!

There’s something about trees. These magnificent bringers of life and shade, cherry blossoms and maple leafs, bring us warmth, provide shelter and on and on and on. For us, trees are central to everything we do. It’s why there’s an outsized tree smack in the middle of our logo to make the “I” in Campfire. We could talk forever about our favorite species and what trees make great coffee roasting fires but this roast isn’t about that. It’s completely about trees here in our home city of Tacoma, Washington and their incredible benefits to our everyday life.
